NASA has recently made an interesting announcement: “There are hidden portals hidden in Earth’s magnetic field.” Described as “openings in space and time,” these portals resemble a short-cut. Though this may all sound like a sci-fi movie, they’re completely real!
Named X-points by NASA, these hidden portals were explained by plasma physicist Jack Scudder: “They’re places where the magnetic field of Earth connects to the magnetic field of the Sun, creating an uninterrupted path leading from our own planet to the sun’s atmosphere 93 million miles away.” Hard to detect due to their mutating structures, these portals are more open to understanding thanks to measurements by NASA’s THEMIS spacecraft and Europe’s Cluster probe. It’s known that dozens of portals open and shut each day along the 93-million-mile field. Most of them are small and short-lived. However, others are yawning, vast, and sustained. Though we don’t yet know what awaits us in the future but we won’t say no to watching more sci-fi movies to inspire us about what’s to come.
